This summer the National Literacy Trust brought Books about Town - TopicsExpress

This summer the National Literacy Trust brought Books about Town to the streets of London. Fifty benches, shaped as open books and themed on popular titles, have been on display in four walking trails across the city, two of which are being auctioned on Tuesday 7th October in aid of Born Free. The two benches are ‘War Horse’ by Michael Morpurgo and ‘Laura Marlin Mysteries’ by Lauren St John. Both are award winning authors and Born Free patrons, who have decided to support our work with the donation of a generous portion of auction proceeds upon the sale of their benches. Michael is donating 25% of proceeds to Born Free, and Lauren is donating 37.5%. Born Free supporters are invited to sign up and bid online ahead of the event or live as the event takes place on the website booksabouttown.org.uk/?action=ViewPage&Id=9. Tickets are also available for purchase if you would like to attend the auction yourself at the Southbank Centre. The auction will be led by a Sotheby’s auctioneer and attended by artists who participated in Books about Town as well as friends of the charities involved and other high profile guests. We will host a wine reception, during which guests will also be able to view some of the BookBenches, followed by the live auction in the prestigious Purcell Room. We are extremely grateful to Lauren and Michael for their wonderful support and wish them all the very best of luck for the auction!
