This time, 10 years ago, I had been living in my car for 5 months. I was in Newark, Delaware. I was 19. I had no idea how I would get out of the situation. It wasnt *so* bad. I had met some awesome people. There was a whole crew of folks whod cruise Main Street late at night, then repose to the Korner Diner in the early AM. I didnt know it at the time, but as it happens, this time 10 years ago, I had only three months left of homelessness. I would not take back that summer for anything. Im glad I had it. But Im also glad those days seem behind me. I like to think Im awesome and did it on my own. But thats not entirely true. Ive had a lot of help from friends in Delaware and in DC. Im doing well enough because of the stability good friends provide. Because of the encouragement and the tough love and the couches to crash on. Thank you! I would not have though, 10 years ago, that August 8th, 2014 would be the 8 year anniversary of my new life in DC.
