This video is of the 117 lb womens champion in this years World Weightlifting Championships. She lifted 292 lbs for a World Record!!! In this video, Zulfiya Chinshanlo still uses textbook technique, even though she is lifting a tremendous amount of weight! Its easy/convenient for all of us to say that form will break down as you increase the weight (or reps), but thats just an excuse. Using poor form will eventually lead to injury! The video doesnt show her setup (unfortunately), but Zulfiya keeps her arms and back tight and lats engaged as she begins her first pull. The bar stays close to her the entire time (almost dragging up her body) as she pulls. Once she is fully extended (at her ankles, knees, and hips), she shrugs her shoulders for one last little bit of power and then quickly pulls her body under the bar, while simultaneously flipping her elbows through (into the front rack position). Where most of us have trouble is the mobility portion (either ankle/hip mobility for the squat or triceps tightness for the front rack). This is why it is sooo important to stretch/work on mobility when youre at the gym. You may never be an Olympic athlete, but you can always improve in something. Find what your weakness is and start working on it!
