This will be appearing in the newspaper soon as an ad to let everyone know Im running for Orange County Council and why Im doing it. This fall, Miles Flynn of Paoli will be seeking the Orange County Council - District 2 seat, which Barb Gilliatt is retiring from after her many years of service. Flynn has been married to the former Stacie Foddrill of Paoli for almost 10 years, and the Flynns are the proud parents of a 21-month-old daughter: Alexandra. Flynn has been employed as a reporter for the newspapers of Orange County Publishing Company for nearly eight years, and his coverage has been recognized by the Hoosier State Press Association. In addition, work he began two years ago to build a community funding partnership will pay off in 2015 with Orange County Publishing Company’s Great Spelling Bee. The winner of the event will represent Orange County next May at the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. Flynn believes his position with the newspapers has afforded him rare insights into the role of the County Council and the overall workings of county government. “I’ve written extensively about county government now since late 2010. During that time, I’ve attended practically every meeting of the County Council and County Commissioners. I’m familiar with the hard choices that must be made in order to balance the budget while guaranteeing essential services like roads and police protection are maintained for Orange County’s citizens,” Flynn noted. “The County Council’s job keeps getting tougher. Tax income remains flat, and casino tax revenue continues to decline. Now more than ever, citizens need representatives who understand the problems and are willing to do the hard work necessary to find solutions.” Flynn added that, thanks to his duties, he also enjoys an excellent working relationship with the present county leadership and has gotten to know hundreds of people around the community. Flynn has earned certification as a Level II Assessor-Appraiser from the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance and is currently working toward his Level III certification. “These credentials mean I have a firm understanding of how property is valued for taxation, and that gets to the very root of how our county government is funded,” Flynn commented. “Without all of this specialized knowledge and experience, I don’t believe I could be the kind of representative Orange County’s taxpayers deserve. With it, though, I can truly hit the ground running and get to work as an informed servant for you. That’s why I’m asking for your vote on Nov. 4.”
