This year Brooke Stedman moved to the netherlands taking only what she could bring in her checked luggage (as well as the stuff she convinced her family to bring later). I moved across the country taking only what I could fit into a car and Hannah Stokes moved across the country taking only what she could fit into a car that was shared with another cross country trekker. The cat stayed at home and kept an eye on the renters. That appears to be working out well for all of them. The experience has made us all realize we have spent entirely too much time and money accumulating things and that material goods do not bring happiness. It has also brought a very welcome simplicity to our lives. We have all found it to be liberating. Each time I come back to DC I devote time to whittling down the remainder of our household. I have discovered huge joy in finding new homes for our stuff. However, every once in a while, despite the fact that there were 3 of us living in 800 square feet, I run into something that does not belong to any of us. So, if you are the person who left the crank powered flashlight equipped with an am/fm radio and personal alarm that can be used to charge a cell phone at our house speak now or you will be looking for your flashlight / radio / alarm / phone charger at Goodwill tomorrow. I would like to reunite it with your generator and 50 years of canned goods.
