Those of you who know me best know that its very rare that I login to Facebook and even more so that I actually become literary about an event. However I feel that today has made it necessary. The last few months and especially the last fee weeks have been a very trying time for me and my family. Weve battled through illness, stress over our children, affairs of extended family, and being faced with those awakening medical words Yes Mr. Ray, it is cancer. Weve remained strong and steady and somehow managed to make it through with most of our pre-assigned wits in tact. However it seems life always has a way of reminding us of our own simple and precious mortality when we least expect it. Today I received a phone call from a dear friend informing me that our old friend and supervisor had passed away somewhat suddenly. He was an incredible teacher if you could be patient enough to overlook the sometimes crass comments and sarcastic overtones. He was nearly a legend in the metropolitan Atlanta collision industry and touched more people than I think he ever realized. He was never a man to mince words and in many ways reminded me of my own dad. Within 5 minutes of being interviewed he said This isnt a job for lazy people and this isnt the business for you if youre gonna get your feelings hurt Youll probably never get rich in this business but people are always gonna wreck cars and somebodies gotta fix them. Well Dick, for all the times you were right about everything you said (which seems like every time). I think you were rich boss. You may not have known it but even those who may have claimed not to like you or you abrasive personality, still had an unmatched respect for you. Today the world lost a friend, a father, a husband, and a mentor like none Ive ever met. Youll be missed Dick Leach. God bless you and your family. To all my former colleagues at Automotive Color & Supply of Georgia, and her sister company Georgia Spraybooth, youve certainly lost a pillar of the company and have some incredible shoes to fill. Rest in peace Dick. Well miss you boss.
