Thought for the day… We all know that you cant spot reduce or target body fat in a specific area right? So why is it that I see so many people spend hours in the gym performing core/ab workouts? Surely people dont enjoy performing 27 different variations of the crunch, squirming around on a pilates mat and awkwardly trying to balance on swiss balls? Beyond a certain point (generally 2-3 [maybe 4 at a stretch] exercises of 3-4 sets) there is no additional benefit to performing additional abdominal/core work. You can only stimulate a muscle to a certain point, so any further core/ab work and you are simply flogging a dead horse! If you want to get rid of belly fat, then crunches are NOT going to do it… HOW TO LOSE STUBBORN BELLY FAT 101: - Eat at a moderate calorie deficit; - Eat at a moderate calorie deficit; - Eat at a moderate calorie deficit; - Continue to eat at a moderate calorie deficit. I think you all get the point… A few core exercises at the end of your workout is fine, but you must use your time efficiently in order to maximise results! Cut the hour long ab workouts and save yourself the nausea and frustration!
