Thoughts and prayers for the victims of the Louisiana bank hostage tragedy and their families. Branch employees are the low men on the totem pole, and most tellers start out at the same pay level as a cashier or fast food worker. Since 2008, few banks have dropped the freeze on annual salary increases that normally accompany a satisfactory performance review. The average 2% raise barely makes a difference in the take home amount, but receiving nothing does dampen the spirits of those already shouldering much too much responsibility and risk.
