Thoughts on this movie? (And a review from me too:) Its one of the few films that have ever pissed me off legit while watching it the first time. It was advertized as a good comedy with Robin Williams running for President. That alone should have been worth watching it, but they screw it up close to half way and turn it into a vanity project about the 2000 Florida election and that just ruined it. Just another way for the pro Gore people to make a symbolic complaint about it through this movie. They missed a hell of a chance to parody the system at that point and connect with voters and un excited ones too. Williams and Chritopher Walken were great, but Williams is kept out of the main story once the other lead forces herself into the story and Walkens bed ridden and hardly does anything. But you can tell they have great chemistry, shame it was wasted. Besides the story change and its vanity, the worst part of this movie was Laura Linney. UGH. I like her in John Adams but she was terrible and extremely annoying here. Your supposed to feel sorry for her but she brings all her problems on herself at the beginning of the movie due to being an idiot and she spends the flick having a self righteous streak, yuck. I for one, and my friends who watched it with me felt the same way, did not give a damn about her character, Shes oddly made into the love interest too which is really cliche. So what she is the main female in the movie, it doesnt meant she needs to bone Robin for the hell of it. That character should have been kept out all toghether. Jeff Goldblums the baddie in this, but yet he doesnt feel right. His character feels like one meant for someone else, but at the last minute they chose Jeff. He doesnt have the mannerisms or soul that Jeffs roles usually got, hes just there and adds nothing. Lewis Black is in this but is playing Lewis Black. Not much to say besides that. What a waste of potential this was. If it would have been properly written as a sharp political satire with Williams campaigning and having a ball on the trail it would have been worth it. Especially if they waited 2 years until 2008 it would have been much more memorable. But as it is its a bland boring and full of itself waste of space. 1.5 out out of 5. I do demand a good Walken/Williams movie though before they get too old.
