Three Minnesotans died in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Tom Burnett, Jr. was a leader of the passenger revolt aboard Flight 93. Gordy Aamoth, Jr. was in the World Trade Center. Gary Koecheler also died. Three North Dakotans died: 30 year old Ann Nelson, who grew up in Stanley. She died in the World Trade Center. Al Marchand, who graduated from Shanley High School in Fargo, was a flight attendant on Flight 175 that crashed into the Twin Towers. Robert Rasmussen, a Hunter native and NDSU graduate, also died.
