Thursday was the 30th anniversary of Barbaras 40th birthday. This occasioned an orgy of celebration -- too much for just one day. On Wednesday we went to Chez Panisse cafe in Berkeley with Barbaras sister Linda and her husband Charlie. Linda just had a significant birthday a few days before, so we had a joint celebration of exquisite food. Thursday, Barbaras actual birthday, we had a quiet morning then went to dinner at our usual favorite, Sweet Tomatoes in Pleasant Hill -- very large salad bar, plus soups and a few other things, and saw the movie Chef, which was pretty good. Friday a hike in Wildcat Canyon Regional Park, and today Luther, Avital and Oliver took us to the Slanted Door in San Franciscos Ferry Building, another of those restaurants on the national radar as among the best places anywhere. Their food is based on Vietnamese cuisine and several of the dishes were off-the-charts amazing and the rest were merely excellent. Coming back on BART Barbara said she wanted to milk this birthday a little more but I told her I think we are going back to normal life. Combining this week with the recent sequential visits by two of Barbaras Illinois cousins, we have been living a bit too large recently.
