Time for a New Random Factoid! On December 7th, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Although it was thought at first to be a huge success, Japanese commander of the military - Yamamoto, grieved on the inside as he already saw that it was a colossal failure. When we see the pictures of the destruction, (including my own of Pearl Harbor attached here) and we dont quite realize that such an epic attack spelled failure for Japan. The reasons are as follows: (1) Japan failed to attack a single Aircraft Carrier as they were actually out in the Pacific (2) Japan didnt attack a single oil reserve on the islands. All of those refineries would have easily gone up in huge flames and would have spread quickly. The pilots went for the battleships. (3) The Japanese did not hit the dry-docks which enabled the ships to be repaired and rebuilt very quickly. (4) The Japanese completely misjudged American fury. They saw the isolationism prior to 1941 and figured Americans werent going to be interested in a US Territory far away from their soil. The attack quickly galvanized the US population and we did in fact rebuild our Naval fleet very quickly.
