Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Lets talk about shipping and packing. I used to think that it was not a big deal. I mean, wrap up a sculpt in bubble wrap, stuff in some paper or bags or whatever and hope for the best, right? Not so much any more. If you do nothing else (I double box when possible), get a box with a high enough crush test rating. Many people dont even know this exists, but think about it. Billions of pounds of mail get tossed through the postal system each year. If you use a box with a crush test rating of 32 pounds, that box is going to go through hell - and show it - by the time it goes 10 miles. I found boxes with a crush test rating of 200 pounds. 99% of the time, boxes show up in really good shape. If you can not find the crush test rating in the boxs product description, dont buy it. Trust me - if it is high, they trumpet it. They are going to cost a bit more - but if it means less breakage, it is a no brainer. This is your products outer line of defense - make it a fortress. Bonus: Bubble wrap can be your best friend or worst enemy. If the bubble wrap is coming in direct contact with my sculpt, I turn the flat side of the bubble wrap toward the product. It works the same way, but you have a smooth surface up against your stuff. any additional layers of wrap can go bubble side in if you like... I broke a lot of stuff before I figured out this little bit of not-so-common sense. :)
