To Those people upset about the no make up challenge: Whereas the challenge could be seen as degrading to women for the mere fact that they shouldnt have to be brave to post a picture of themselves at their natural, beautiful, non make up covered state. There actually is good reason behind it. Maybe it doesnt pay for surgery or chemo. It doesnt take the cancer away or reduce it by any amount. It most definitely doesnt bring back the ones we love who lost their battle with cancer BUT it does serve a purpose. One that you have to think outside the box to see. First off whoever came up with the idea was brilliant. How do you spread awareness of cancer through teenagers? Unless theyre studying to be in the medical field they dont know the facts and even reading a book doesnt express the emotional issues that comes along with it. Chances are even kids with relatives with a form of cancer dont even understand. I know I still dont and I live with someone who has it. But along comes an epidemic of challenges and selfies. 2014 has been covered with them and every teenager in the book is either doing them or watching others do them. So they made a challenge. Post a selfie of yourself make up free. Now these ladies dont face the challenges a cancer patient would. They have their hair, and theyre still healthy, but they are understanding the emotional turmoil (on a much smaller level) that these people go through. They feel what its like to be exposed, and for some they feel what its like to not think their beautiful. And I get it, its not the same... But how is it any different than shaving your head for cancer? Your hair grows back. Much quicker than a cancer patients. Yours also didnt fall out. You had control over it. But this act still is looked at as supportive. The only difference Ive found is this is more directed at teens or the younger generation. Which is awesome because kids my age and younger need to be exposed to this. We are the worst at not thinking before we do anything but maybe we could help, maybe if we felt your pain and were exposed to something that honestly feels impossible to most...then maybe we can change things. If youre a cancer patient and Ive offended you or this challenge offends you. Im sorry. We dont understand youre pain...but were trying. Which in my book is much better than ignorance. End rant.
