To Whom it may Concern, We have limited time to disseminate information and let the Failing Playground Task Force know we CARE and will USE a renovated Playground. I’m writing to let fellow neighbors and ALL know about a chance to help Merced Heights Playground, After School Program for children 6-12, along with basketball court, tennis court, a grass field and a Recreation Center. With 72% approval, voters enthusiastically supported the 2012 San Francisco Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond (2012 Bond) giving the department an additional $195 million to continue capital projects for the renewal and repair of our parks, recreation, and open space assets. The 2012 Bond includes funding for 15 neighborhood parks, long awaited investment in Golden Gate Park, McLaren, and Lake Merced, as well as renovations to the parks’ support infrastructure. • From the 2012 bond Merced Heights has a chance at being 1 of 6 Guaranteed parks to be renovated from the $15.5 million for Failing Playgrounds • Merced Heights Playground and Rec Center is 1 of 6 playgrounds in District 11 of the 6 it is the only playground on the western boundaries of District 11 with a rec center and after school program. It was graded a C in 2012 and an F in 2014 with NO improvements made in the 2012-2013 year at all. If I could ask a small favor and have you write a supportive email asking the Failing Playgrounds Task Force to recommend Merced Heights Playground be one of the six to receive funds from the $15.5 million allocated by the 2012 bond for citywide failing playgrounds that would help make this long sought after goal hopefully become a reality for many families and provide a safe and fun place for anyone to come visit. The email address to drop a quick line of support for the Merced Heights Playground would be: [email protected] If interested in attending the last meeting at City Hall, August 12th 5:30 - 7:30 PM, please look to the link for updated information as the room number for the meeting has yet to be determined: sfrecpark.org/failing-playgrounds-task-force-revised-meeting-schedule/ Updates from the 5th Failing Playground Task force meeting: Of the people whom attended the meeting 4 groups were formed asking participants to rank the tier 1 playgrounds, 6 that will be guaranteed monies from the 2012 GO bond, in all 4 groups Merced Heights was placed in tier 1. Great news, but its not a done deal yet there is still one more meeting, August 12th, and if we can keep it fresh in the minds of the decision makers that this long needed improvement to our local playground where a clubhouse and after-school program resides it would be a boost and keep it fresh in their minds when time comes to make the decision for public funds to renovate the playground. We have secured a letter of recommendation from District 11 Supervisor Avalos as well as a call from him directly to the Park and Recreation Manager. If you have taken the time to write an email asking for support in the renovation of Merced Heights Playground THANK YOU! If you havent yet and have a quick moment to do so please drop a line to the failing playground task force at: [email protected] thanks for your support and together we can help to rebuild a safe and fun playground for all to use at Merced Heights. Thanks again for time, Blas Herrera Merced Heights Neighbor, and 2 years young, Steward of Merced Heights Playground
