To all UTAR students: By now, many of you would have known what - TopicsExpress

To all UTAR students: By now, many of you would have known what happened in the Sg Long Campus. It is shocking for many that a young boy with a future would take the step to end his life tragically. While many of us would have questions as to why this was done, and many of these questions would remain unanswered, it is best that we allow for ourselves and the family this time of grief, reflection and prayers. My advice is that we give our due respect and dignity to the deceased and refrain from speculating on the cause of his death. The University (specifically DSA officials and an academic staff from FAM) has been with the family (i.e. at the hospital, etc) throughout this time of grief. The funeral details will be made known later as the family has not decided on this as of now (5.45 pm, 19 July). Once the details are known, we will inform the SRC of Sg Long. The University conveys its deepest condolences to the family. Meanwhile, for those who may be affected in one way or another by this event, and you wish to talk to a counsellor about this, please go to the DSA office and speak to our counsellors or officers there. You may also approach the relevant staff members of FMHS who have also volunteered to provide counseling to those in need. DSA Counsellors will speak to the relevant students involved (tutorial / lecture group) next week, and has also spoken to the housemates of the deceased to provide any grief management. Thank you for your kind understanding and cooperation in this matter, by not speculating further with regard to this event.
