To celebrate another great year of Green Club, Mrs. Jaster and - TopicsExpress

To celebrate another great year of Green Club, Mrs. Jaster and Mrs. Grier took the Green Club members to Weston Bend State Park. The 2nd-6th grade students participated in a Tree Identification game with Ranger Jim George where they tested their knowledge on trees and tried to identify 10 different types found around the park by using an identification key. Then the students worked on the stream table with Ranger Ryan Persinger and tried to build a stream. Students were able to see what happens when water erodes the soil/sand away and what can be done to prevent this. The students reviewed the water cycle at this station also. Finally, the students went on a nature hike with Ranger Matt Carletti and talked about the different layers of the forest as well as what types of animals you would find in our area. The students found animal skins, saw what their skulls would look like, and learned facts about each one as well. They finished by eating lunch at the park. Green Club had such a fun morning enjoying nature and learning about native plants and animals in the area. Thank you very much to the Rangers at Weston Bend State Park, especially Matt Carletti, for putting on such a great program!
