To my CA gunnies and California FFL/sporting goods dealer friends: the NSSF is requesting that you do NOT meet with the Calif. Dept of Fish & Wildlife reps. Theyve been calling meetings to discuss lead ammo replacement matters. NSSF is soon to release a study about this matter; also, Fish & Game Commissioner Sutton is being investigated for violation of various statutes - so further interaction at this moment may be harmful. Just leave the room empty. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM: NSSF - Natl Shooting Sports Foundation RE: Dealer Meeting with Calif. Department of Fish and Wildlife It has come to the attention of NSSF that the California Department of Fish and Wildlife is asking dealers to meet with its director and other representatives to discuss the availability of non-lead alternative ammunition for purposes of hunting. The purpose of this alert is to bring California dealers up to date on this subject and to ask dealers not to meet with the department on this matter at this time. NSSF is currently in the process of finalizing a study that will include an analysis on the lack of supply of alternative ammunition, the impact of increased demand on alternative hunting ammunition and the economic impact of implementing AB 711, which bans the use of lead ammunition for hunting. The results will be presented to the Fish and Game Commission at its Wildlife Resources Committee meeting on September 17, 2014. The purpose of the study is to provide up to date information on this subject to the commission and the department to assist them in addressing concerns with the implementation of AB 711. Accordingly, NSSF sees no need of or benefit in meetings with the department or its directors at this time. Any such meetings would be fruitless, as accurate and current information on the subject would not yet be available for purposes of review and discussion. NSSF also has serious concerns about the apparent conflict of interest of Fish and Game Commission President Michael Sutton relative to the alternative ammunition issue. Last week, NSSF delivered a formal letter to Mr. Sutton asking that he remove himself from involvement in the drafting of regulations to implement AB 711, as well as any other issue related to lead ammunition or matters lobbied by Audubon California or Pacific Flyway. Because of Mr. Suttons positions as Executive Director of Audubon California and Vice President of Pacific Flyway, his involvement in the implementation of AB 711 regulations appears to violate state statutes. Until the matter of Mr. Suttons involvement in the alternative ammunition issue is resolved, NSSF does not have confidence that manufacturers, dealers or sportsmen can receive fair and impartial treatment in this subject area from the commission or, in turn, from its subordinate, the Department of Fish and Wildlife. In view of the above, NSSF is asking dealers to refrain from meeting or otherwise communicating with the departments director or representatives until after the study is released. * * * * * * *
