To the guy with whom I have just had a little set-to through the windows of our cars - its NOT the law that you dont need to switch your lights on until the street lights come on! If youre in a silver car driving on a wet road [like mine, when you become very hard to see], your cars visibility is seriously impaired and I am looking after your safety by suggesting you switch your lights ON! This goes for a helluva lot of idiots out there who seem to think that its a great game of chicken to leave your lights off until the last possible chink of light goes out. This also applies to idiot cyclists who insist that wearing black and riding black bikes without any lights is a good idea at night.
