Tobias Rent update. A quiet night! Still on Levophed at 0.04 mcg/kg. Keeping his pressure about 100/50 Heart rate 118. Vent at 80%... Im sure Dr. Sal will be coming in and turning that down soon! Dialysis today, although his bun and creatinine are the best ever. WBC are 20. CXR shows pneumo is resolved... I have no idea when they will pull the chest tube. There is a possibility that the surgeon will come by and talk about putting in a trach today. if not today they will come in on Monday (you know specialities dont work on the weekend!) Toby has had the tube in for 10 days now and there is concern about vocal cord damage . Plus it is the thing he complains about the most... you know my kids all like to talk (recessive gene I am sure) Night time activities included a bath, leg massages, a new pressure pad on his coccyx to prevent skin breakdown and I had a discussion with him about his hair because it was in the way of the tubes, velcro straps, etc. between cutting and shaving his head he wanted it shaved. After I spent over an hour on brushing it out, I was able to braid it and it looks lovely. Out of the way and neat and tidy. Still needs it washed, but that is down the line after he is extubated or if he is trached it can be done then. Wonderful care... Lewel was his night nurse and James the RT. Both talk to him and explain everything. Today it is Courtney as the nurse and Kim as RT... again, both excellent. I told Toby all the people who had come by and visited, sent good thoughts/prayers, brought up food for Team Toby, called, texted, sent good wishes on FB. I played him the song, you find out who your friends are. Toby has been a good friend to a fault and it is nice to see his true friends coming forward.
