Tobias Rent update! He is still intubated, but the paralyzing medicine is off, the propofol is half what it was and the fentanyl is still on. Having a lot of secretions and so they are suctioning tube and his mouth frequently. With the vent set at 18 breaths per minute, he is consistently overbreathing the vent when he gets anxious. He opens his hand and reaches as much as the restraints will allow him. When I told him Katie stayed in his room last night and that Marie had been staying in his room every night, he started crying. I told him ALL the people who had come to see him.... friends, estranged friends, ex- girlfriends, family friends, old friends, church friends, and strangers too. His eyes widened.... About 7 p.m. they had his O2 level lower via the vent, but the night nurse realized his heart rate was high and he was anxious. She increased the O2 level and gave a little more sedation and he calmed down. So it might just need to take a little longer.... probably 3-4 days to get everything calmed down. all in all, Im feeling even more optimistic and I am anxious to be done with the next several days.
