Today I feel ashamed to be Danish. For the arrogance of so called animal people. Copenhagen ZOO have shown, full on, that we, in general are depraved and void for respect and compassion for animal life. Not only did ZOO Copenhagen turn down several options to relocate the young Giraffe, they also swept away ideas such as castration of the giraffe so it could not pass on its unclean genes. Something once heard in the 30s in Germany. Their defense are as hollow and shallow as listening to hunters excuses to hunt and kill animals. The castration was not an option as it most likely have side effects on its natural behavior!? Whats natural about a giraffe living on a little concrete block for life? Well dear ZOO, if you cared to listen - there are 6 healthy male giraffes living together in an Australian animal park. But I guess the line in this are. ZOO breed animals. Animal babies are cuties, and that will sell a lot of tickets at the gate. And this was exactly what this young giraffe was doing when he was born 18 month ago. Exposed to the media for good PR, but then he grew up and was not the big ticket collector anymore. Now ZOO could sell tickets to see him get killed and chopped up - and Danish people paid at the gate bringing their children to view the slaughter - in an animal park. ZOO again trying to do damage control, using words like Euthanasia. Well heres definition of euthanasia in English by Oxford dictionary: euthanasia - the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma. This Giraffe was healthy and did not fit into this category at all - which turns this into killing. But as always euphemisms are thrown around to make things appear to be better digestible for the general public. The good news is the world is slamming down on Denmark. Before I used to defend us when people attacked Denmark for the whale killings on the faroe Islands - now I applaud it. thousands upon thousands of people are hammering ZOOs facebook page as we speak. Petitions set up last nigh have gathered 20.000+ signatures for the resignation of the people behind ZOO during the night. Not only watching the Danish ZOOs arrogance through this, but also the fact that people went there for the kill and slaughter of this young giraffe, even bring along their children make me wanna scream. Hell, they even had a live stream in case you could not make it in person. Look at this picture and understand. Theres NOTHING natural about ZOOs. Its hell for the animals. And for what - just to satisfy our curiosity. These animals do not deserve this. Stop supporting ZOO. Rant over. Johnny Højfeldt is NON Copenhagen Zoo supporter
