Today, I not only lost a FELLOW OFFICER, I LOST A BROTHER and a FRIEND. Jerry Dale Abston went to be with our God today. JD was a Husband, a Father, and a Son. Detective Jerry Dale Abston, JD, of the Putnam County Sheriff Department, was my BROTHER in my Law Enforcement Family. He was my fellow officer, and my friend. I know that JD was a good husband, father, and son., but I cannot speak to that. I can, however speak to the latter. As many of us know, in 2002, JD took some hard knocks at the Putnam Sheriff Department. He showed what kind of a man he was. He stood firm, held his head up, and fought his way back to Detective. JD and I shared such a fate and stood together in our quest. JD offered me encouragement when I needed it. I can only hope that I was able to offer him the same. I love you JD, my BROTHER, my Friend. Your family has much to be proud of in your memory. I know I do.
