Today I teach my son how to respect women as equals. I will Help him learn to listen to them , not just hear them. I have already been making sure sure he knows how to cook, clean and change a babys diaper (tried it on a friends baby)-- and that he understands none of this is womans work. I am going Make him do something hes not good at., and Make him finish it. Today I will plant deep within him the knowledge that showing affection/compassion is a sign of strength, not weakness. I will teach him that no matter how old he gets, he can still find joy in playing and being goofy. I will one day show by example that a wife and mom has the right to her life outside of those roles -- a career, hobbies, friends, volunteering, whatever fulfills her. I will make sure he knows how to be by himself and be OK. To Teach him about me time -- and that everybody deserves a little. I will teach him about perspective, and how sometimes a small shift can change everything. I will not rescue him from every little situation. Instead, I will Let him figure out how to stand on his own two feet. I will teach him KINDNESS always WINS. I will teach him that real men wear scarfs, slacks, tuxedos, even cowboy hats and basketball shorts . Theres nothing like a man whos confident in who he is. I will teach him teamwork, fellowship and mutuality amongst his peers -- and to give credit where credit is due. I will try my hardest to help him to see not just the big things, but also the small things that others do for him, and to show his gratitude willingly and often. I will go the distance to make sure he learns to be more than tolerant of everyone --to embrace differences. I will Teach him to be both a gracious winner and loser. The losing part was hard for dad, so It will be practice for us both. I will make sure IZAIA appreciates the sounds of others voices at least as much as he likes the sound of his own. I will Expose him to the farthest corners of our world to the best of my ability, even if that means in books and in my own kitchen. Culture is everything... I will in time help him learn what it means to be emotionally intimate -- how to talk about feelings and to support and be supported by the people he loves. Finally, Most importantly, I will do my best to always make sure he knows that hes loved beyond measure. #FFF
