Today I want to talk about the Mill dogs and bringing one home........ These dogs walk into glass. They stop and stare in mirrors. They might freak out at a ceiling fan. The ice machine in your fridge sends them into a scurrying frenzy. The doorbell might make them tinkle. An alarm clock from a dead sleep might make them fly through the house in fear. Every little thing you are used to, that seems like nothing, is frightening to them! These dogs lived for YEARS without stimuli. Only other dogs and workers. No toys, No tv. No radio. No food cooking smells. Nothing. EVERYTHING will be new to them, and they need baby steps. They need calmness. Young children are scary, and thus can be dangerous to have around a scared mill dog. Theyve never met small people. Small people are loud, fast and a threat. Mill dogs LOVE their kennels. Its the safest place on earth. When bringing a Mill dog home, its extremely important to GIVE that dog a few hours, a couple times a day, IN their quiet safe kennel to RELAX from all that family / household stimuli ! A crate covered with a sheet, in a quiet safe place in the house will be a safe haven for a nap, for a break, for sanity. THEY NEED THIS!
