Today Owen, my son was diagnosed with Marfans Syndrome, a genetic - TopicsExpress

Today Owen, my son was diagnosed with Marfans Syndrome, a genetic disorder of human connective tissue. Marfans Syndrome is the same disorder that Baylor University Basketball Star and NBA Draft Pick Isaiah Austin was diagnosed with just before the NBA Draft this Summer that prevented him from playing basketball in the NBA. As a result of Marfans Syndrome Owen will have to have eye surgery on August 29th to repair a dislocated lens in his right eye. His heart will also need to be monitored closely with bi annual MRIs and heart surgery is a possibility in the future. Because Marfans Syndrome affects the heart Owen, just like Isaiah will not be able to play competitive basketball again. Although we are disappointed Owen cannot play basketball again, we are grateful we now know about his condition and we have world class doctors at Texas Childrens Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine. Most importantly we are grateful to God for his protection over Owens life thus far. Although I do not fully understand why God allows things like this to happen as the do what I do know is God is an awesome God and this diagnosis is a part of Gods master plan for Owens life and other peoples lives will be changed forever. If you could say a prayer for Owen I would greatly appreciate it as he begins this new journey of his life. Also, to learn more about Marfans Syndrome visit marfan.org or isaiah-austin Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Jeremiah 29.11
