Today, a cautionary tale about what can happen when you open the door to a nanny state…….Vancouver is the only city in Canada that has its own building code on top of the national building code. Their latest edict: banning doorknobs. Starting in March, all new houses built in Vancouver must have lever-style door openers and faucet handles, because those are easier for the disabled to use. A Canadian sociology professor said the idea is to create a more open society. Which is fine, for public buildings. But these are private homes. What if there are no disabled people living in your home, and you just prefer old-fashioned style doorknobs and faucet hardware? Too bad. Private citizens can’t be trusted with important decisions like that! Next thing you know, you’ll want to choose your own health insurance benefits. Can someone please tell me if I can still buy a door with a lock on it that will keep the government out of my house?
