Today as we honor and celebrate our Veterans, the man and women - TopicsExpress

Today as we honor and celebrate our Veterans, the man and women who risk their lives to protect our freedom, I want to thank them for their patriotism, muchas gracias! But, I also wish to share my sentiment about those in power who feel compel to go to war. I believe that before any President, Congressman, or any Corporate investor who lobbies our Representatives to go to war decide to declare war, that they envision the soldiers battling as if they themselves were the ones going to the front line; that before other peoples children enlist, that it was a constitutionally mandate for them and their children to be the fist to enlist. I truly believe that if more warmongers were mandated by the constitution to serve in the wars they declare, we would see less and less wars and more diplomacy. Working class and the poor are sold an idea to enlist in the military so they can get ahead, and have a better chance at the American Dream. If this was the case, Puerto Ricans would be first class citizens flying high in the great American Dream, since after the US granted them citizenship in 1917, conveniently so they could serve in the First World War, they have served in every US war ever since, and constitute the largest percentage of soldiers in any US war. This is the same sentiment I have about those same lobbyist who push their agendas on the poor, the working class and the politically disinfranchised; those who are pushing an abusive public school reform, a system that they would never dream of subjecting their own children, nor have they ever attended the factory-style schools, the kind of schools that they are forcing upon the children in the public schools.
