Today at 1pm Law Courts Building, 184 Phillip Street, Sydney Jonathan faced court for sentencing last week; submissions were heard and sentencing was deferred until *FRIDAY 25th July. We will gather at 1pm.* Join us, as we stand together with Jono, and the farmers he supported, when he receives his verdict. It is a significant moment for our movement. In the face of government inaction and gross negligence, citizens will need to continue to take bold action for our climate. We need to support them when they do. We have less than a week to gather supporters. PLEASE share and invite your friends. He is facing up to 10 years jail and $765,000 in fines for a creative action drawing attention to the controversial Whitehaven coal mine, and ANZ’s ongoing finance of destructive coal projects. ***** ** IMPORTANT - This is NOT a protest. If you would like to attend to silently and respectfully demonstrate your solidarity, we welcome that. Please dress as if you are attending court. ** Jonathan’s action opened up an important conversation in Australia. The proposed Whitehaven coal mine is a contested and controversial project that is facing massive and widespread resistance. Big coal and gas companies are driving our political agenda while big banks like ANZ are profiting from polluting projects that destroy farmlands and water. And now a principled young man who took action for future generations is being faced with heavy penalties, whilst corporate criminals avoid prosecution. We are standing with Jono.
