Today in 2002 Kataklysm released the album Shadows & Dust Montreal, Quebec,Canada Death Metal (early), Melodic Death Metal (later) Status:Active Years active: 1991-present Kataklysm is a Canadian death metal band. They call their musical style northern hyperblast after an advertisement in M.E.A.T. magazine describing another band, Fear Factory, as hyperblast. The term refers to the extremely fast blast beats that Kataklysms drummer, Max Duhamel, fuses into the music.1992. At the beginning of their career they were mostly known for being one of the fastest, most chaotic metal bands. However, their music changed after Sylvain Houde left the band, and bassist/backing vocalist Maurizio Iacono took over Houdes vocal duties, and another full-time bassist was recruited. In 1998, the band released Victims of This Fallen World, an album which was noted as being a change in musical style from previous albums. The following album The Prophecy (Stigmata of the Immaculate), however, this saw the band return to its previous style, though less chaotic and with a touch of thrash metal. Drummer Max Duhamel is said to have been forced out of the band because of injuries. Eventually, Duhamel recovered from his injuries and participated on Kataklysms ninth album, In the Arms of Devastation. Kataklysms line-up has remained relatively stable compared to many other bands within the metal genre. The band only has one missing original member, Sylvain Houde. The US-version has a bonus track Inside the Material Flesh, which is also available on the Death ...Is Just the Beginning VII compilation CD. Kataklysm and Nuclear Blast Records have decided to re-release the bands classic album Shadows & Dust. Kataklysm will give the album a small facelift by giving it a new mastering job and hiring expert Alan Douches to bring it up to date. Furthermore, the re-release will include the track Inside the Material Flesh as a bonus track from the Shadows & Dust sessions along with new packaging and the video clip for the song In Shadows & Dust. The new version of Shadows & Dust will be released in North America on November 6, 2007 via Nuclear Blast. Re-released in 2011 by Animate Records as black vinyl LP limited to 566 copies & clear / black marbled vinyl limited to 100 copies.
