Today in Minuteman Brigade history: On this date in 1936, the 36th Infantry Division converted the two Texas Supply Trains, the 111th and the 117th, into a single, unified regiment, designated the 111th Quartermaster Regiment, perpetuating the history and records of these two veteran organizations from World War I. This regiment, which made up the transportation assets of the division, was commanded by Lt. Col. Ernest O. Thompson and headquartered in Austin, Texas. Years later, the regiment would serve in World War II as the 36th Quartermaster Company, supporting the Texas division through seven campaigns in Central Europe. The quartermaster company went on to be called the 111th Transportation Group, then the 111th Area Support Group and 136th Manuever Enhancement Brigade, before finally adopting the designation of Joint Task Force 136 (Maneuver Joint Task Force 136 Maneuver Enhancement Brigade - the Minuteman Brigade. This anniversary date marks a significant milestone in the units lineage as it transitioned from its World War I posture and mission to its World War II organization.
