Today is a good basketball day of redemption. First game, I - TopicsExpress

Today is a good basketball day of redemption. First game, I made a gorgeous pass to a cutting player - who turned out to be on the other team, and he scored easily. Bad start. In this 16-point game, we were down 9-15, but we came back and won on my GW-shot ... over the other teams best player nonetheless. Ive been making great progress this week on my jump shots. In another game, I knocked down 5 or 6 jumpers, and the two that I missed were barely rimmed out. Its good that hard work pays off. After the games and with most guys gone, I played H-O-R-S-E with a short guy who is among the best in shooting in our park. The rule is only jump shots inside the 3-pt line. He was so cocky that he chose to shoot with his eyes closed on a FT! When I was at S, he was only at H, but I survived and just hit shots after shots for an incredible comeback and actually pulled off the miracle upset. It was real fun! As the guy left and I kept practicing my shots, another guy came and I played one-on-one with him. He had long arms and a decent shot, which created problems for me, as I could not just overpower him. Still, I won 7-1, as my jumpers were falling. I thought about leaving b/c I was tired, but I played a second game and lost 2-7. I decide to dig deep and give my all, suck it up and played a deciding Game 3, and thanks to my jumpers which he refused to defend, I beat him 7-3. Then a shirtless Russian guy wearing only very short shorts came with a cigarette in his mouth. In his broken English he wanted to play a H-O-R-S-E equivalent game with me. Given his strange look I was curious to see his skill, so I agreed. He has no substance and I quickly beat him 5-1 and sent him away. Next came a guy wearing an Army shirt. He was a disaster though. I asked him for to play one-on-one just so that I could use a body to practice my post-ups. I beat him 7-1, 7-1, 7-0, and he scored only b/c I was playing with half effort. Actually not even half. Finally, two cocky teenagers came and asked to play 2-on-2. They were slightly taller than me but very athletic, showing off with their dunks and etc. Even though it would be lopsided to have the disastrous Army guy on my team, I agreed to the game b/c I was full of confidence and believe I could beat them single-handedly. I asked for a 7-point game but they insisted on 11. (I wanted a short game b/c I was tired and the shorter the game the easier it would be for an upset). We raced to a quick 2-0 lead, but they easily came back and led 7-4. My poor Army shirt teammates only job was really to inbound the ball, and I missed several shots. Not really liking the cockiness of those two teenagers, I dug for all my reserve energy, hit shots after shots, as they refused to guard me close while blaming each other. We were leading 9-8 and I hit another jumper to make it 10-8, with one more point to win. One of the teenagers kept saying it was only 9-8 though, and that just pissed me off. I drove hard on him on the next possession, scored, and then hit the next jumper to win the game. In total, I scored all 11 points, essentially playing 1-on-2, and that was after playing for about 5 hours. It feels F***ING AWESOME!!!!
