Today really is the first day of winter--cold dull rainy. Not an interesting rain, just a long day of monotonous dreary rain. And wind. That kind of wuthering you imagine on the bleak heath of an eternally grey British sky. No wonder we have so many holidays in the fall. My only consolation is this: soon it will be a yellow tree day. One of my greatest joys is stand under a tree with bright yellow leaves on a grey day like this. Our leaves are still green. But not for long.
