Today, the Wake County Commission held a fairly brief meeting. During the hour, we heard a report from the Wake County Commission on Women, which continues to focus on employment, childcare and access to information as its three areas of focus. We also approved new members of several boards and commissions and approved a series of agreements under which the County will purchase three new fire engines and lease them to three of our fire districts. We also approved the re-opening of a staff Coordinator for Intergovernmental Relations, a position that has gone unfilled since 2009. This person will play a key role in making sure that Wake County plays well with other governmental entities such as the legislature, Congress, municipalities and surrounding counties. Finally, we approved the County Managers request to retain former County Manager and State Senator Richard Stevens as a representative of the Countys interests in the State Legislature for one year. We fully intend to protect those interests and work across party-lines to advance Wake County and North Carolina. If you have any questions, please let me know.
