Today was suppose to be the happiest day of our life. August 11, - TopicsExpress

Today was suppose to be the happiest day of our life. August 11, 1973, 40 years ago Bill and I were married. We do not celebrate. On this very same day, coming home from our wedding, my Aunt Maxine, the mother of 6 children ages 10 to 1 (3 in the car with them) was killed by a drunk driver. My Uncle Stan followed her to heaven a short time later. My Aunts Mom and Dad were following in the car behind with 3 of their other children and saw the entire accident happen. My Aunts car was hit so hard the battery acid flew onto her parents car. TtHE OTHER DRIVERS CAR ENDED UP IN THEIR FRONT SEAT. My Uncle was driving, they were hit on a bridge and my Uncle had no where to go. They had borrowed a friends cadillac, they were suppose to take us home that night. All the wedding gifts in the truck were stolen, along with my Aunts ring, it was taken off her as she laid dead. My cousins diamond tie tack also taken, by people who were suppose to be trying to help them. The reason for me telling you this. PLEASE DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. Many families lives were destroyed that night. The PAIN NEVER GOES AWAY. YOU HAVE SURVIVORS GUILT, IF WE HAD NOT ASKED THE BAND TO PLAY AN EXTRA HALF HOUR. IF WE HAD LEFT WHEN THEY WANTED TO. IF WE HAD NOT GOTTEN MARRIED. IF WE HAD ELOPED. If I had spoken up in high school about his drinking. The young man who did this graduated with me. He was the "party boy", the "good time Charlie" and always boasted about going out in a "blaze". I never thought it would be at his hands I would lose my Aunt and Uncle. He also died, HIS FAMILY IS SUFFERING TOO. If YOU know someone with a drinking problem, get them help. If you know someone is drunk, TAKE THE KEYS AWAY. Call the POLICE. Call them a cab. Take them home. Do what it takes to stop them from driving! To anyone I have offended by my tough stand on DRUNK DRIVING...I will not apologize. The PRICE IS WAY TO HIGH. I am NOT asking for sympathy. I am asking anyone who sees someone who has had to much to drink to STOP them from DRIVING, no matter what you have to do. No matter who it is. A parent, wife, husband, or their children will thank you.
