Today we celebrate the feast of St. John divine. satucket/lectionary/John.htm Have a Blessed Day. We give thanks to the Father who has made us worthy to share in the inheritance of the Saints in light. Colossians 1:12 Let us pray Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbour. Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen. Lord, open our lips. And our mouth shall proclaim your praise. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy: Come let us adore him. Father we come to you in the name of your Son Jesus our Redeemer, to offer you our worship, praise and thanksgiving. To you belong all power and glory. You are the source of all goodness. Let our worship bear witness to your peace and saving power. Through your Spirit may we ever rejoice in the abiding presence of our risen and ascended Lord. Amen Venite O come let us sing to the Lord:* let us shout in triumph to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before His face with thanksgiving:* and cry out to Him joyfully in psalms. For the Lord is a great God:* and a great king above all gods. In His hands are the depths of the earth:* and the peaks of the mountains are His also. The sea is His and he made it;* His hands moulded dry land. Come let us worship and bow down;* and kneel before the Lord our maker. For he Himself is our God;* we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. If only you would hear His voice today;* for He comes, He comes to judge the earth: He shall judge the world with righteousness * and the people with His truth Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. PSALM 97 1 The Lord is king! Let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! 2 Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. 3 Fire goes before him, and consumes his adversaries on every side. 4 His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles. 5 The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth. 6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness; and all the peoples behold his glory. 7 All worshippers of images are put to shame, those who make their boast in worthless idols; all gods bow down before him. 8 Zion hears and is glad, and the towns* of Judah rejoice, because of your judgements, O God. 9 For you, O Lord, are most high over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods. 10 The Lord loves those who hate* evil; he guards the lives of his faithful; he rescues them from the hand of the wicked. 11 Light dawns* for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart. 12 Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous, and give thanks to his holy name! Glory to the Father and to the Son: * and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning is now: * and shall be forever. Amen OLD TESTAMENT READING Proverbs 8:22-30 (NRSV) 22The LORD created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of long ago. 23Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. 24When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. 25Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth- 26when he had not yet made earth and fields, or the worlds first bits of soil. 27When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, 28when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, 29when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, 30then I was beside him, like a master worker; and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. THE BENEDICTUS Blessed are you, Lord God of Israel, * you have come to your people and set them free. You have raised up for us a mighty Saviour,* born of the house of your servant David. Through your holy prophets, you promised of old to save us from our enemies,* from the hands of all who hate us, to show mercy to our forebears, * and to remember your holy covenant. This was the oath God swore to our father Abraham:* to set us free from the hands of our enemies, free to worship you without fear: * holy and righteous before you, all the days of our life. And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High:* for you will go before the Lord to prepare the way, to give God’s people the knowledge of salvation: * by the forgiveness of their sins. In the tender compassion of our God:* the dawn from on high shall break upon us, to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death: and to guide our feet into the way of peace. Glory to the Father and to the Son: and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning is now: and shall be forever. Amen. NEW TESTAMENT READING John 13:20-35 (NRSV) 20Very truly, I tell you, whoever receives one whom I send receives me; and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. 21After saying this Jesus was troubled in spirit, and declared, Very truly, I tell you, one of you will betray me. 22The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he was speaking. 23One of his disciples-the one whom Jesus loved-was reclining next to him; 24Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom he was speaking. 25So while reclining next to Jesus, he asked him, Lord, who is it? 26Jesus answered, It is the one to whom I give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish. So when he had dipped the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas son of Simon Iscariot. 27After he received the piece of bread, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, Do quickly what you are going to do. 28Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him. 29Some thought that, because Judas had the common purse, Jesus was telling him, Buy what we need for the festival; or, that he should give something to the poor. 30So, after receiving the piece of bread, he immediately went out. And it was night. 31 When he had gone out, Jesus said, Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him. 32If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself and will glorify him at once. 33Little children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, Where I am going, you cannot come. 34I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. 35By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. THE APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen. V. Save your people, Lord, and bless your inheritance; R. Govern them and uphold them, now and always. V. Day by day we bless you; R. We praise your name for ever. V. Lord, keep us from all sin today; R. Have mercy upon us, Lord, have mercy. V. Lord, show us your love and mercy; R. For we put our trust in you. V. In you, Lord, is our hope; R. Let us Pray Collect of the Day: Saint John Shed upon your Church, O Lord, the brightness of your light, that we, being illumined by the teaching of your apostle and evangelist John, may so walk in the light of your truth, that at length we may attain to the fullness of eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
