Today, we remember the great Roy Acuff, on his birthday (1903). Acuff was born in Maynardville, Tennessee, and became synonymous with the Grand Ole Opry following his 1938 debut. In 1962, he became the first living inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Roy is often credited with moving the genre from its early string band and hoedown format to the star singer-based format that helped make it internationally successful.
