Todays Devotion Topic: Choosing Gods Work Over Good Works! Text: Matthew 7:22- 23 22 Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles? 23 Then I will tell them plainly, I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers! God has a divine purpose and assignment for each man on earth. We must however be diligent to search and find from the giver of the assignment what to do and how it ought to be done. Our inability to do so makes us end up doing what we think is good not what God will delight in. There is a clear difference between good works and Gods work. While good works seek our own will, pleasing ourselves and others rather than God, Gods work seeks His will and pleasure. In 1 Sam.15:22, King Saul chooses his own will over Gods will by sparing the life of the Amalekites King Agag and some other animals. That choice seemed right to him and humanly thought would please God also, until Samuel rebuked him. Yes, there is a way that seems right in our eyes but the end thereof is Gods rejection. We need to be careful not to please men or ourselves in doing Gods work else we have our reward from men and yet the father will not be pleased with us. We must offer our lives a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. Then we ask the Holy Spirit to take control and lead us to do nothing except that which glorifies God and gives Him pleasure. When we pray the prayer above from our hearts, God descends to preside over all we do and say. His presence with us then makes all the difference, impacting lives everywhere we go. Not for our pleasure or the praise of men but for His divine will and purpose. Begin to pray now.
