*** Todays Tip: OBESITY AND ARTHRITIS Obesity is a well-established risk factor for osteoarthritis. The extra weight puts added stress on the knees, hips and feet. This causes cartilage in the joints to breakdown more quickly. People who have arthritis may benefit from losing weight. Exercise also helps improve range of motion and strength. Water exercise is ideal for those with arthritis because it is gentle on joints and muscles; high-impact activities such as running should be avoided. If you are overweight, but dont yet experience arthritis, weight loss is one way to help prevent it. Source: Obesity Action Coalition
