Today’s discussion at our veterans roundtable in Grand Junction provided critical information directly from the veterans’ community that I will be able to take back to Washington. One of the central themes that came up numerous times was that community efforts are working, but the bureaucracy out of Washington is in many cases hampering these efforts, or causing unnecessary delays in the system when it comes to veterans healthcare. We are hearing these same comments echoed from veterans throughout the district. Finding out what is and isn’t working directly from those who receive care from the VA and from those working in the community, is critical as we work to address these challenges in Washington to ensure that veterans have access to timely and quality healthcare, employment opportunities, and receive the benefits they have earned in defense of our nation. What we discussed today will serve as a strong foundation from which to build future conversations and solutions on these important issues.
