Today’s visit to Mason Lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness - TopicsExpress

Today’s visit to Mason Lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness confirmed my suspicion of an early hiking season. There was only one small, hardly-worth-mentioning snow patch on the trail and it’s only June 5th! Also, there was lupine, in bloom…beginning of June…wow. Just as an early snow season is a gift to skiers, this season is a dream come true for hikers and those who long to make an early entry into the backcountry. When I arrived in the lake’s basin, I decided on a perch of a large, warm rock near the lake’s shoreline to grab a morsel from the backpack of deliciousness. There I sat, in the sunshine, warm enough to not need a jacket save for a periodic cool breeze. And the best part? Not a bug in sight! It was so quiet and peaceful, I dozed off smiling until, at last, I woke up and realized that all good things must end. Today’s hike was like a magic salve for the soul. More please…more….
