Tomorrow I will walk away from the space that has been my home and the home-away-from-home for many others. The past ten years of Tiny Tribe have been filled with the first steps, first words, and first friendships of over fifty amazing kids and their families. Tiny Tribe, for those kids, has been their safe place. A place to take risks and to grow. To be themselves. To own their own uniqueness and to feel unconditional love and acceptance for the diverse and incredible little people that they are. They have learned to express their emotions through words and have developed empathy for others. Tiny Tribe, above all, has given them the gift of knowing the meaning of true friendship at a very young age. Tiny Tribe, for their parents, has been their safe place too. A place to make parenting mistakes and share stories. A community of extended family to help one another through the difficult early years of sleepless nights, temper tantrums, potty training, and lice. ;) Theyve brought meals for each other after a baby was born, driven each others kids home when traffic was bad, and traded childcare for date nights. Theyve been there for each others families through health scares, job loss, divorce, and family emergencies. For me, those friendships are Tiny Tribes most valuable legacy. Its fitting that the last day of Tiny Tribe should fall on Laylas sixth birthday. We experienced four difficult years of infertility followed by six amazing years of parenthood. The roller coaster ride of becoming parents, for Scott and I, was made so much easier because of the support and love we had from our Tiny Tribe community. They were with us every step of the way and still are. As I type this, both of my children are safe in the arms of two different Tiny Tribe moms, so that I can move the last of this stuff that has accumulated over the past ten years. Thank you for trusting me with your most valuable gifts. I will carry you each within my heart forever.
