Tonight I have to say I am grateful for the wind. Yesterday maybe not so much...today most certainly. That is one marvelous thing about the wind....it is ever changing. Minute to minute, hour to hour and if you live in Kansas you never know what to expect. Yesterday the wind was bitey. It bit at my nose, it bit at my ears and it bit at any exposed flesh like thousands of little needles going poke, poke, poke! Today it was so gentle and it caressed my soul. Fresh laundry hanging on the line air swayed and wiggled in the crisp breeze. I stood and watched it for quite sometime and it developed a rhythm, a pattern. It was quite intriguing really. In a mystical way trees and grass seem to dance in the wind. Fields of Kansas wheat become seas of rolling golden hypnotic waves in the winds of summer. Wind is a diametrically opposed force dashing from one extreme to another. Vicious winds rip into homes or whip fluffy snow into mountainous drifts. On the other hand wind creates the millions of ripples across a lake that are mesmerizing. Wind is such necessary force when one thinks about it. It is required to assist in the pollination of mother earth. It is a factor necessary to bring moisture that sustains life. For me, the wind that gently kisses my neck reminds me that my grandmothers and my daddy are close at hand. Wind is both positive and negative in nature, much like our lives. We each at one time or another blow one direction then another, hot then cold, fierce then gentle. Just as all are necessary in nature, so too are the winds of our life.
