Tonight I took in a homeless man off the streets, out of the storm. Not just any homeless man, but a dear friend who is in dire need. Not only for shelter, but assistance. Many other friends have tried to help him, but every door has been closed to him for help! This is crazy to me!! Why can a man in his fifties not qualify for assistance? Because he is not able to pop out a baby? Because he is not a woman? Please Facebook friends, I need advice. He is mentally incapable of taking care of himself and no one understands how desperate his situation has become. He literally has nothing to his name. He literally could not shower and bathe himself. I had to MAKE him go back into the bathroom and shower again. I fed him and gave him clean clothes and he is sleeping on my futon in my living room. Bless his heart, he asked me if he needed to leave early in the morning so he could walk back to where I picked him up. He thought it might take him 6 hrs to walk back down town. I plan on calling around tomorrow to see if I can get someone to help him. I can not put him out on the streets again. Please please please help me help my friend... Any suggestions would be appreciated! This is breaking my heart. The weather is getting colder and he will not last in the woods. A shelter is not acceptable to me. He needs an address so he can qualify for something(disability) ..... I am at a loss. Say a prayer for his safety and for God to open a door and make a way. Anyone who has a heart will do this for their fellow man. He is NOT a drug addict nor a drunk and he is a prideful man who worked all his life. Hes probably in early stages of Alzheimers. He has a hard time with simple conversation. He gets so confused.
