Tonight it took me an extra long time to feed every one because I took the camera :) Brightside is well known for the way our animal residents all make such good friendships regardless of their species. The chickens in these photos were rescued from factory farms, they were destined for slaughter to be turned into take away or supermarket chicken for people who will probably never stop to think how they all have individual personalities and characters and how none of them want to die. Birdo the galah was kept for some 19 plus years in a tiny cage in a shed, in that time she never saw another galah yet when she came to Brightside she recognised the resident galahs as her own kind immediately and went berserk with excitement. We were told she hated having space.... the truth is her owners needed to justify keeping her in a tiny cage as she was very aggressive to people. She is no longer aggressive to people at all. I love the fact we can allow animals to express their individual characters and make friends with no boundaries, humans have so much to learn from animals.
