Tonight the Sacramento City Council unanimously approved a staff recommendation to study three possible projects for improving travel between downtown and South Natomas: - the addition of a bicycling and walking path on the I-5 bridge over the American River - improvements to the Hwy 160 bridge that would include bike and pedestrian access, and - the addition of cars to the light rail bridge to be built by Regional Transit that will also carry bikes and pedestrians between the River District and Truxel Rd. All three are good for bicycling, because they would solve the problems caused by wintertime flooding along the lower American River. But bike-riders benefit regardless of which city project goes forward -- even if the city rejected all three alternatives, RT will still build its bridge that will accommodate bike and pedestrian traffic.
