Tony Perkins, and many conservatives, and authoritarians, fear - TopicsExpress

Tony Perkins, and many conservatives, and authoritarians, fear democracy. While our founders gave us one legislative body that was actually elected, the legislatures of the states actually decided how that would happen and drew district lines. The senate would be even less structured and more subject to corrupt, antidemocratic domination. Thereby the powerful vested interests of the states could control the nature of the Supreme Court and federal judges, who would be most likely to threaten things like oppressive state-backed discrimination against common men. The idea was a few good men -- monied enough to ascend to local power, would control the nation. It is the essence of Republican government, to this day. Giving any state no matter how pitiful, sparsely populated, or corrupt 2 senators was bad enough, and eroded the equal access of citizens to government. Leaving it as it was meant the members of state Houses, would rightfully be your masters, by selecting your senators for you. Tony laments you getting to decide on these matters.
