Too many cops think they are fighting a war on crime or that they are commandos in Baghdad. As a result, the standard response for some (not all) is to demand fear and slavish compliance in every request. In fact, crime rates are at historic lows, as are injuries of police officers. If we want to avoid becoming Soviet Russia, whose police demanded identical compliance at the point of a gun, we need more men like this.
