Transformer Design Manager / Electrical Engineer - Uganda $4000 p/month (Negotiable) Under the guidance of the GM, coordinate and supervise workshop staff and monitor day-to-day workshop operations in cooperation with the Workshop Foreman Identify opportunities to improve standards and practices in relation to improving operational success and maintain accreditation status. Provide guidance and procedure enforcement to meet and exceed customer and internal requirements for productivity, delivery, safety, quality and compliance to applicable facility policies and procedures. Lead the workshop operations team including foreman, supervisors and up to 20 staff in various sections of the workshop (winding, assembly, fabrication, testing) Handle administrative matters pertaining to workshop and site projects including planning, cash flow budgets and cost control Provide regular update on assigned projects to the relevant internal stakeholders on a timely basis Monitor, maintain, control and direct production operation functions to include job tasks, safety requirements, quality and other specific manufacturing tasks within the workshop floor environment safely and productively. Monitor, maintain, control equipment in operational status through observation of equipment operating, conducting audits of equipment located within the factory and at site projects, schedules and completion, written work orders for repair of functionally non-operating equipment as needed and required to maintain equipment using the required standard job cards Assist in developing work instructions for workshop and site projects staff and part related job functions, communicating verbally and in written form and training employees in the use of equipment Set up and approve production schedules in the various departments to ensure that goals are met and finished goods, inventories and shipments are maintained at the proper levels in constant liaison with the Workshop Foreman and Stores officer Control flow of material and utilization of labour to ensure adequate production of transformers are of the required quality to fulfill production requirements of the manufacturing plant Direct and approve all requisitions for maintenance and repair equipment and machines parts and recommend and/or make improvement in machinery and equipment and in manufacturing methods Completes necessary production reports for onward transmission to the GM Ensure compliance with all labour, environmental and safety procedures and regulations and report performance metrics and improvement activities to the GM Design Produce calculations, drawings, sketches, instructions, bills of materials, etc. for drafters and others to follow to satisfy the requirements of the repair units and customer specifications. Perform various engineering tasks involving such functions as analysis, design, development, test, installation and service, while working from instructions, drawings, proposals, specifications, and other pertinent information. Provide technical guidance to workshop foreman, technical staff and to shop floor personnel in the service and repair of distribution transformer units Must evaluate customer requirements and integrate requirements into the production schedule. Perform thermal, transient and short-circuit verification of the design as well as necessary test specification Follow-up of manufacturing/repair and participate in special on-site inspections KEY SKILLS Must possess a thorough working knowledge of medium voltage distribution transformers (up to 33kV), including basic design and application. Experience with in distribution transformers is most critical. Must be able to apply engineering principles to the electrical and mechanical re-design of transformers. Must be able to read and interpret customer specifications, industry standards, and company design standards, and apply to transformer design. Must be able to re-design and specify alternatives for repair transformers including bill of materials for windings, tank and other Must be able to use a personal computer to do engineering calculations using commercial and proprietary programs, and to perform other office functions. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel,AutoCAD, Root Cause Fault Analysis, etc. Other desired skills include Finite Element Analysis (FEA), PLC programming, Boolean logic QUALIFICATIONS Electrical Engineering Degree Three years of transformer electrical and mechanical design experience desired A minimum of two years in team leadership and management.
