“Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate - TopicsExpress

“Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD; and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He will do it.” Psalm 37:3-5 The legal definition of an arrest is to deprive a person of his or her freedom of movement. However, this is not what God does when he get a hold of us. He cause us to understand His will. When I say not my will but Your will, I am praying, “God arrest me. Arrest my heart, arrest my mind and just take it all.” I believe that when David penned these words, he learned to be arrested by God. Trusting in the Lord, delighting one’s self in Him alone, and committing all of one’s self to God’s sovereignty means that person has allowed themselves to be arrested by Him. Our freedom of movement and what we do with our life has been completely given over to God. He has arrested us. I couldn’t help but be perfectly safe in that concept any fear and doubt would dissipate away. David wrote, “Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.” There is a progression here. Trust in the Lord and simply do good. Simply reflect who God is to those around us. When this happens, God uses us more and more and we find that we are dwelling in the land that He has placed us. Then comes the cultivation. This takes time. Cultivating is a long process and the first step is to plant seeds, allow them to grow, and then cultivate the fruit of that labor. In this case, faithfulness is that fruit. I have a tendency to be inconsistent in my walk, but when there are small steps made in being consistency, faithfulness to God will become the habit in my life. “Delight yourself in the LORD; and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Interestingly, the term delight means to be pampered, but when you think about what that means, it means to spoil and splurge on yourself. David said in Psalm 34:8, “O taste and see that the LORD is good; how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!” Often we don’t know what we really want in life, but when we spoil ourselves on the goodness of God, He gives us what we really want, which is not necessarily material things. This could come in the form of healing, the removing of burdens, and peace in the face of fear. These things are often what we want most. “Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He will do it.” Not only commit your life decisions to God, but trust Him with it. It is very easy to commit something to Him, and then take it right back. Leave it there, and God will do great things with it. When someone is arrested, their hands are bound and they are unable to do anything with them. In our most broken moments, there is nothing that our human hands can do to bring healing and peace to our hearts. We are certainly free to try, but I would rather surrender my freedom to God and allow myself to be arrested by Him, because He alone can bring perfect peace to a heart in chaos. “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful” (John 14:27). Be blessed for He is God!
